so say goodbye to love, and hold your head up high. there's no need to rush. we're all just waiting, waiting to die
Lily and Manny Baker had been married for a few years, the shop they had invested in was finally doing very well, and the only thing that was missing was adding to their family by having children. Sadly, they found out that there was a very slim chance that they could ever have children and it would be a miracle if it ever did happen. They decide they would adopt a child, seeing as there were so many children in the world without parents and although it was a long process they were blessed with a little girl who they named Riley Jasmine Baker.
Riley was constantly aware that she was adopted, although she didn't understand what it meant most of the time she appreciated the fact that they never thought of lying to her about where she truly came from. Plus, it wasn't hard to tell that she looked nothing like them and everyone could see it. But unlike most people, Riley decided she didn't care to know who her parents were because she figured if they chose to give her away it was their loss and she had a perfectly amazing family. Or it might have been the fact that it was a closed adoption and therefore she didn't really feel like being an investigator. She believed that looking into her birth parents could be something that would eventually lead to bad things, especially if she found people she didn't want to share the same genes with and so she left it at that.
When Riley was 11 years old, her parents sat her down which she figure had to be another one of those "talks" they had been giving her lately about just about every single subject possible. This time the news were more shocking then ever-they were going to have a baby. Of course, she always dreamed about having a brother or sister but this was basically like some miracle that no one though possible. By the time she turned 12, her mother gave birth to a healthy baby girl they named megan and riley finally became a big sister. Riley was a great big sister, doing everything her mother asked and even as she grew older her little sister became one of the most important people in her life and she would drop anything for her.
After the baby came into the picture, although riley was extremely in love with being a big sister, she often worried that having this new baby in the house would cause everyone to forget about her. She didn't fully understand the concept of adoption and literally spent night worrying that her parents were going to put her into the car with bags full of her things and bring her back to where she came from. They would tell them that they were going to return her, like an item of clothing but luckily that never happened and her parents never made her feel once ounce less of love. If anyone could say they had the perfect parents-it was her. They gave her everything and more. Even to this day they would do anything for her sister and her, they would be willing to give up anything for their family. Riley only hopes that some day she can be as good as they are.
When riley started going to high school, she automatically fell into the "wrong" crowd. These were the people who were showing up at parties of people they didn't even know, even though they were all no taller than 5'1 and it was clear that they were underage. She didn't particularly enjoy the scene, or enjoy the fact that random guys were suddenly humping on her leg and claiming it was dancing. Her best friend was her life, they did everything together and she figured she would accept this lifestyle for herself if it meant that the two of them could spend time together. This of course kept her in the party scene and eventually drove her to start smoking which is something she has always wanted to stop.
When riley turned 15 years old, her mother made her start working at their shop which was about two blocks from their home and since they needed time to do other things they needed to trust someone with helping out and no one would have their trust like she would. Although it was like a death sentence in the beginning, it really allowed her to appreciate the things her parents did for her sister and her. Although many times kids from school would come into the shops with their parents and just laugh at her, she didn't seem to mind because all the money was going straight to the bank. Think of it as an allowance but even better. The shop has been going strong for many years now (although some years were slightly rougher) and she has worked there since that day. Even now she gets bored of it, at times she had kept two jobs just to have some variety but she can't imagine being anywhere else.
The day rileys mother brought home louie was the day that she fell in love with animals. She couldn't believe that something so small could be so loving and so comforting in her life. This cat was truly like another part of the family-it slept on the edge of her bed, when she had a bad day she would cuddle next to him, and he always somehow knew when she needed him because he appeared right beside her. She begged her parents for another cat, but instead while walking through the pet store she found martin who was the perfect dog. sadly, martin passed away a few years later. and as much as riley has always wanted another dog, she can't bring herself to replace him. but recently has been looking to buy a small puppy.
Despite her looks, Riley is what many would consider the all american nerd. She enjoys watching cartoons in the morning with a bowl of cereal, enjoys movies that involve wizards or magical creatures such as harry potter or narnia, actually really enjoys reading comic books despite the fact that most girls just don't get them, and quite frankly she is willing to beat just about any boy at any video game of his choice. She likes the simple things-staying at a home, a bucket of popcorn in her lap, a friendly face alongside her, and a movie on the television. Her life is not all about parties and honestly its not all about being liked or being like everyone else. This is one girl who will kick off her heels and join her 8 year old sister in a game of soccer. She definitely has just a hint of 5 year old male in her.
While most of her friends were busy looking for Prince charming, riley was too busy reading her harry potter books for the fifth time which could have caused a problem. Her first boyfriend was in grade 1, he basically kissed her on the mouth, told her she had some kind of deadly disease that only attacked boys and ran away. she had a few more relationship with boys after that, but nothing really big. having spent more of her life being friends with boys instead of girls, she just couldn't get over that brotherly feeling. so it was no surprise that the first time she kissed a girl, she was completely hooked. from that moment on, her relationships continued to be with females. however, she often feels doomed when it comes to these things. especially when she finds herself ruining everything that ever makes her happy. she believes she is her own bad luck.
Riley was never very interested in high school, she would often spend her class time drawing stupid characters on her notebook instead of actually listening to something useful. Her teachers constantly told her how much potential she had, that all she had to do was actually pay attention and do something other then sleep. When it came time to graduate, she was extremely surprised that she had passed and was going to graduate with all the kids she grew up with. However, while everyone was making plans about where they were off to next or the dream job that would soon be theirs-she was sitting there wondering what she was going to do tomorrow. Sadly, she still has no clue what she wants to do. but her plan is to enroll in college at some point before the year is done. she feels like it's finally time to grow up and do something with her life. she's currently spending a lot of time reading up on schools she can go to.
